Seller's description

This is an incredible vintage Anton Pieck wooden handbag; purse - lucite handle. Muted decoupage scenes of a horse drawn carriage, buildings, an antique fire truck, the level of detail in the pictures is incredible. There is one area of one panel that has a hairline crack in the piece of decoupage (see pic); inside is in great condition. I was thrilled to find this at a local estate sale. Measures 6" x 5", 4" handle drop.

Evidence

POSITIVE
  • —
NEGATIVE
  • photo 1: handbag is constructed as a faceted wooden/decoupage box with a wooden lid and lucite or resin handle, unlike typical Coach leather, suede, canvas, or coated-canvas construction.
  • photo 1: front closure is a decorative metal clasp rather than a recognizable Coach turnlock.
  • photos 1-5: no Coach wordmark, horse-and-carriage mark, leather hangtag, creed patch, or serial/style number is visible.
  • photos 1-5: panels show printed/decoupage artwork depicting historical scenes, not Coach signature materials or catalog silhouettes.
  • listing text: seller identifies the item as an Anton Pieck wooden handbag and lists the brand as unbranded; this is consistent with the visible construction.
  • photo 1-4: octagonal wooden box purse body with all-over Anton Pieck decoupage scenes, not glove-tanned leather
  • photo 1,2,4,6: tortoise-tone lucite top handle on brass-tone mounts, never used on vintage Coach classics
  • photo 1-6: brass-tone swing-latch clasp and exterior hinges, not Coach turnlock geometry
  • photo 1-6: no creed patch, no COACH wordmark, no leather hangtag visible in any view
  • photo 5: paper decoupage with hairline crack/tear, material Coach never used for handbag bodies
MISSING INFORMATION
  • photo 1-5: interior is not shown clearly enough to assess lining, labels, or any maker mark.
  • photo 1-5: no close-up of the underside, clasp mechanism, or any printed signature/marking is provided.
  • photo 1-5: exact age and materials of the wooden box, decoupage, and handle are not independently verifiable.
  • interior lining and inside of lid not shown
  • bottom and scale not shown, though not needed for Coach determination
  • maker signature mentioned by seller not close-up in photos
AUTHENTICITY CONCERNS
  • ⚠ The visible construction is fundamentally inconsistent with a Coach handbag; it appears to be a non-Coach decorative wooden handbag rather than a Coach lookalike leather bag.
  • ⚠ photo 1-6: wooden octagonal box body with paper decoupage and lucite handle is fundamentally inconsistent with Coach glove-tanned leather construction of any era
  • ⚠ photo 1-6: no Coach creed, wordmark, hangtag, or solid-brass Coach hardware geometry visible
